The Swing Band is one of the school’s largest ensembles, operating jointly with DCHS. It is open to brass and wind players in all years and also includes drums and bass guitar. Rehearsals are usually held every week with the venue alternating between the two schools. In recent years, the band has visited France and Germany as part of its Summer Tour.
Unable to perform since Cabaret Evening last year, Swing Band arranged a virtual performance of two of their classic pieces, Sway and Skyfall. This was organised by Ryan McCluskey (DCGS) and a DCHS student who made excellent work in bringing together each of the individual parts. We were each sent a recording of this piece which we listened to whilst recording our part to help us stay in time. We were also dressed in our iconic pink and black Swing Band shirts. The performance was included in the DCHS Virtual Spring Concert and it proved a great way to get back into playing after such a long break.
Well done to everyone involved and we look forward to being able to perform again in person in the not too distant future.
